Our favorite free music festival, a gift from Warren Helmann to the city of San Francisco every October, kicks off this afternoon at Golden Gate park. We'll be heading over to the Rooster Stage in Marx Meadow with a blanket and thermos of cocoa, bundled up against the fog, to hear Patty Griffin sing her haunting melodies. The festival--this year is the 10th Aniverssary--continues all weekend long with an amazing roster of guests including my favorites: Elvis Costello, Patti Smith, Joan Baez, Buddy Miller and Richard Thompson.
